To inculcate the principles of Charity, Justice, Brotherly Love and Fidelity; to recognize a belief in God; to promote the welfare and enhance the happiness of its Members; to quicken the spirit of American patriotism; to cultivate good fellowship; to perpetuate itself as a fraternal organization, and to provide for its government, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks of the United States of America will serve the people and communities through benevolent programs, demonstrating that Elks Care and Elks Share.
OUR HISTORY THEN AND NOW
Our Attleboro Elks Lodge #1014 is situated on 26 acres of land in a rural part of Attleboro, Massachusetts. The lodge was incorporated in the city of Attleboro in 1906, and currently has more than 800 members.
The original lodge was housed in a rented space in the Odd Fellows Building on Bank Street in Attleboro. From 1929 to 1980, our lodge was located in a building between Pine and Union Streets. After construction was completed, we moved into our present location at 887 South Main Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
Our lodge holds the distinction of having the largest function hall in the city of Attleboro. Many people have enjoyed wedding celebrations, birthday and anniversary parties as well as local businesses routinely host functions and meetings using our facilities.
We host the largest Bingo in the area with more than 200 people attending on a typical Sunday evening.
We have an outside pavilion which is 72x40 feet with a covered BBQ pit. Our pavilion is capable of holding functions for 200 or more guests. Alongside of the pavilion, we have several professional horseshoe pits built by our Horseshoe Committee. Our members have won New England Horseshoe Championships throughout the years.
The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks main thrust is Charity and our lodge is proud to stand as the community leader in charitable donations. We are very active in supporting our veterans, special needs young adults, youth and seniors in our community. Also, the Elks are second only to the United States government in awarding academic scholarships.
We continue to make a difference in our community and are always amenable to new opportunities presented to us.
